Tools

Notion

Notion is an all-in-one workspace that allows you to organise, plan, collaborate, and get things done efficiently.

Notion Calendar

Fully integrate your Notion workspace and your other favourite tools into a single calendar.

I’m kicking off the year by adopting the practices outlined in the null 12 week year.

The premise is that instead of setting goals for the year ahead.

Which is a long time to either:

  • Forget about your goals

  • Or put them off because you have plenty of time

Instead, I’m creating goals for the next 12 weeks.

This forces me to address said goals as the deadline is much sooner.

Creating a plan

So here’s my plan:

  • Goals: Create goals that you want to reach in 3 months

  • Actions: Figure out the actions you need to take to reach those goals

  • Schedule: Schedule your week to accommodate those tasks

  • Review: Perform a weekly review to see how the week went

Setting goals

This will differ from person to person.

But consider what’s important to you.

Overarching topics might include:

  • Read backpack emoji

    Business

  • Emoji money

    Finance

  • Health

  • Relationships

Just make sure the goal is something you want to achieve.

Otherwise, you probably won’t give it the attention it deserves to see results.

When setting goals, you don’t want to overwhelm yourself with too much.

Instead, focus on 2-3 goals.

Make sure to keep them measurable and specific.

For example:

  • Emoji money

Save £1,000 over the next 3 months vs save money

My goals for Q1:

  • Read backpack emoji

Business: Fully book up Q2 with work

  • Health: Lose 6 lbs of weight

  • Personal: Move house

Creating actions

With the goals to hand.

The next step is to figure out the actions that will need to be repeated frequently to get there.

For example, lose 6lbs of weight might include;

  • Emoji money bag

Create monthly spending budgets for food, entertainment etc.

  • Coin emoji

    Review spending habits monthly

  • Cancel all unused subscriptions

My actions for Q1:

Business

  • Connect with 5 people per week

  • Publish 3 LinkedIn posts per week

  • Publish 1 newsletter per month

  • Publish 1 blog post per month

Health

Personal

  • Pack up the house

  • Date night 2x per month

  • Listen to 3x audiobooks

Scheduling actions

Now that we know what actions to take, we need to intentionally create time for them.

For me, this involves booking them into my calendar.

More specifically null Notion and null Notion Calendar.

I have a schedule database in Notion for scheduling work so that’s exactly what I’ll do here.

Read my detailed post on null how I created my ideal day in Notion and Notion calendar.

If this seems like too much, block out time for the most important actions in your day.

I simply schedule everything for the day so I know exactly what I need to do.

Also, be aware that things might not go exactly according to plan.

It’s just that a plan, that’s why the next step is so important.

Planning weekly review

It’s important not to forget this step.

Sometimes you’ll have bad days or even weeks.

At which point, you might think;

Well, I’ve already failed I might as well give up now.

However, the weekly review is a time to reflect and treat the new week as a fresh start.

Consider what went well or not.

And be kind to yourself (unless you were just being lazy 😅).

So that’s my plan.

After 12 weeks, I’ll do a write-up of what went well and what didn’t.

And if I find it to be a success, I’ll do the same again for the following 3 months.
