ConnectDER

Taking ConnectDER from a dated brand that undersold them, to a visual identity and website that positions them as the unequivocal market leader in residential energy hardware.

Problem

ConnectDER had spent eleven years building what had quietly become the dominant product in their category — a meter socket adapter used on rooftop solar, battery backup, and EV charging installations across the US.

The product was genuinely ahead. The brand was not.

A dated visual identity, a website that undersold the product, and no consistent design foundation across sales, events, or marketing materials. In a sector where customers are used to seeing polished, confident branding from the likes of Tesla, SolarEdge, and FranklinWH — ConnectDER had allowed competitors to close a gap that shouldn’t have existed.

With a new product launch driving rapid growth, and a clear ambition to re-establish their position as the unequivocal market leader, the moment to fix it had arrived.

Solution

The work started where it needed to — with the brand. Not a cosmetic refresh, but a considered rebuild of everything visual: understanding where ConnectDER sat in the market, what their customers actually needed to feel, and what a brand that could carry the next decade of growth should look and feel like.

Functional and reliable, but not boring. Sophisticated without being futuristic. The kind of confidence that makes an installer trust a product before they’ve even read the spec sheet.

With that foundation in place, the work extended across everything that touched the brand:

A full website redesign and rebuild on Next.js and Prismic — giving the marketing team a fast, flexible platform they can manage without developer involvement for day-to-day content.

Specific pages like the Approved Utility Status tool, a searchable and filterable resource built to handle real operational complexity, show what the CMS can carry beyond standard marketing pages.

Motion and animation work brought the product story to life in ways static design couldn’t — particularly on the homepage, where the technical nature of the product needed to feel approachable rather than intimidating.

Sales collateral, event materials, business cards, social templates, custom product diagrams, email design — a full suite of assets built on the same system, so everything ConnectDER puts in front of a customer or partner feels like it came from the same place.

The engagement didn’t end at launch. The ongoing retainer means the brand continues to evolve consistently, without the overhead of briefing multiple people or managing separate design and development relationships.

Rob’s an exceptionally rare talent. In the past I’ve needed two separate people for design and web development — with Rob handling it all, I have one creative partner on both strategy and execution. The best compliment I can give is that our external stakeholders keep assuming our marketing team is much bigger than it is.
